Four days after losing the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final to Côte d’Ivoire, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have risen in the latest FIFA rankings, soaring from 42nd to 28th position.

Despite the final loss, Nigeria’s performance at the Côte d’Ivoire 2023 has propelled them up in the latest FIFA rankings, making them the most improved African team. Formerly ranked 42nd, the Super Eagles surged fourteen spots to claim 28th globally and third in Africa, trailing Morocco and Senegal, placed 12th and 17th, respectively.

AFCON 2023 champions Côte d’Ivoire, also experienced a significant rise, climbing ten places to secure fifth in Africa and 39th worldwide, trailing Mohammed Salah’s Egypt at 36th.

AFCON 2023 bronze winner South Africa ascended from 66th to 58th in the rankings, while Qatar, champions of the Asian Cup, made an impressive leap of twenty-one places to seize 37th position.

The top ten rankings remain unchanged, with FIFA 2022 World Cup champions Argentina ranked number 1, closely followed by 2018 winners, France.
