Jose Mourinho, the former manager of Manchester United, Chelsea, and Tottenham in England, has revealed a surprising disclosure regarding how he was approached to lead the three Lions back in 2006. But the former Roma Coach turned down the offer, despite it being a juicy one.
Jose Mourinho, who was 44 at the time, was one of the hotspot coaches in the EPL, having won consecutive English trophies with Chelsea and his outstanding record with Porto, where he won the Champions League.
While speaking on former Manchester United player Rio Ferdinand’s podcast FIVE, he addressed the long-standing debate between Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, and Paul Scholes.
“I could have been the coach of their national team. I had it there on the table,” responded the recently sacked Roma manager, who rejected the offer.
He then clarified the reason behind his action as “Because I always had national team jobs as something I wouldn’t enjoy. It was in 2007-08 and Mr (Fabio) Capello got the job.”
However, the 66-year-old is still very much a strong link to replace current manager Gareth Southgate, whose future is possibly becoming uncertain.
