Nigeria’s Cyriel Dessers has lauded Rangers’ impressive 5-0 victory over Hearts in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.

Dessers who found the back of the net in both halves of the match against third-placed Hearts commended the Gers’ strong performance against a formidable opponent, that was on an eight-match winning streak.

“We are in a really good place and we want to stay there. We have to keep going, just focus on ourselves, do the things we have to do and that is what we are doing the whole week – working hard, doing the same thing every day and we have to keep going,” the striker told Rangers TV .

“I think it was a beautiful afternoon for everyone who loves Rangers. I think we played a really good game against a good team, let’s not forget they are third in the league and although the result was 5-0, they didn’t play a bad game and I think we were really effective.

“We did our job and you can see the atmosphere here at Ibrox, it is an amazing afternoon.”

Despite his attested “lack of freshness,” Dessers believes he fulfilled his role for the team, expressing satisfaction with grabbing a brace in a significant victory that took Rangers five points clear of Celtic (who has played a game less) on the league summit.

“You feel in the first minutes at Ibrox, the energy is always buzzing but if you can score a goal at that point, it is a big knock for them. Dio made an amazing goal for the second week in a row now so let’s hope he can keep this going!

“It was hard work today. Most of the teams in the league just play the ball long, but they wanted to try and play a little bit and I had to press like crazy and run a lot so you maybe lack a little bit of freshness when you have the ball but I think I did my job for the team and I am happy to get two goals in a massive win so I am really happy,” the 29-year-old concluded.

With eleven games left to go in the Scottish Premiership, Rangers and Dessers will next be up against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, as they intensify efforts to win the title for the 56th time.
