Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has undergone a successful surgery to address a meniscus injury he sustained during a training session on Tuesday.
The Belgian international who was just recovering from rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee back in August 2023 was reported to have left the left training on Tuesday in tears.
Subsequent tests revealed a rupture of the medial meniscus in his right knee, potentially ruling him out for the remainder of the current season.
“Our player Thibaut Courtois underwent successful surgery today for a tear to the internal meniscus of his right knee, under the supervision of the Real Madrid Medical Services. Courtois will start his recovery program in the next few days,” Real Madrid’s statement reads.
According to The Athletic, Courtois had also undergone meniscus surgery on the same knee back in 2015.
The Belgian goalkeeper was expected to be fully back for Real Madrid post-international break, but with this fresh setback, the 31-year-old might miss out on the entire 2023/24 season, following the previous ACL injury he picked before the season kickstarted.
