England vs Brazil: Seleção manager Dorival Junior relishes ‘special’ debut victory

After securing a 1-0 friendly win over England in his first match in charge of Brazil, Dorival Junior said the victory marks just the beginning of the Seleção’s journey to revitalize their poor form.

Thanks to an 80th-minute goal by 17-year-old substitute Endrick, Brazil not only ended their four-game winless streak, but also handed Gareth Southgate’s England their first defeat in 11 matches.

Speaking to reporters post-match, Dorival said, “It’s a really special moment, for sure. On only a few occasions has a Brazil side won in England which must say something about us. But we must not lose sight of the fact that this is just the start of our work.

The 61-year-old continued, “I have a lot of trust in these boys. I am hoping for a lot more from this team, but I think this shows what we are capable of going forward.”

Dorival’s second game in charge of Brazil will be in Madrid on Tuesday when the five-time World Cup champion take on Spain.
