After defeating the Orlando Magic 106-94 in Game 7 of their first-round series, the Cleveland Cavaliers, who are the hosts, advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals thanks to 39 points from Donovan Mitchell.
Mitchell, who had 17 points in the third quarter, completed 15 of 17 free throw attempts on Sunday. He also contributed five assists, nine rebounds, and five blocks. Following a 50-point performance in Cleveland’s 103-96 loss in Orlando on Friday, he put on an incredible display.
The fourth-seeded Cavaliers overcame an 18-point deficit to win their fourth game of the series at home behind the 15 points off the bench from Caris LeVert and the 13 points from Max Strus.
Tuesday’s Game 1 of the conference semifinals between Cleveland, who won their first postseason series in six years, and the Boston Celtics, who were the top-seeded team during the regular season, is scheduled to take place in Boston. The Celtics won two of the three meetings.
For the third consecutive game, the Cavaliers prevailed despite being without All-Star centre Jarrett Allen.
In his debut Game 7 for Orlando, Paolo Banchero scored 38 points and pulled down 16 rebounds.
