West Ham will appoint Julen Lopetegui as manager on Thursday, according to the PA news agency. The former Spain, Real Madrid, and Wolves manager has agreed to a three-year contract to succeed David Moyes, who departed the Irons after his contract ended at the end of the season.

Lopetegui, who previously led Porto and Sevilla, had steered Wolves to safety in the 2022-23 season. However, the Spaniard quit Molinuex after nine months on the eve of the new Premier League season in August, citing a disagreement over the club’s transfer budget.

The 57-year-old will be entrusted with turning around the Hammers’ fortunes after a ninth-place finish left the east London team out of European competition next season.

Moyes was in his second term at West Ham since 2019, and he led the club to its first trophy in 43 years, winning the 2023 Europa Conference League final against Fiorentina in Prague.

Despite suggestions that Lopetegui had already been lined up, West Ham confirmed Moyes’ departure at the end of the season in a club statement released on May 6.
