Flick, 59, has been without a job after he left the German national team in September 2022, following a poor run of four wins in 16 matches that included a group-stage elimination at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
While Xavi led Barça to a second-place La Liga finish—10 points adrift of Champions Real Madrid, the club, despite renewing faith in the 44-year-old about a month ago made a drastic U-turn a few matches to the end of the season.
The club has signed Flick on a two-year contract, and he’s expected to kick off operations for the next season by being involved in the Catalan’s summer operations.
“Barcelona and Hansi Flick have reached an agreement for the German to become men’s first team football coach until 30 June 2026,” the club announced on their website.
Having coached Victoria Bammental, TSG Hoffenheim, and Bayer Munich, where he won a treble in 2019/20, Flick’s appointment with Barcelona will be his first managerial role outside his country Germany.
