Bayern Munich settles for Vincent Kompany after rejections from top European coaches  

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have confirmed the appointment of Vincent Kompany as their head coach until 30 June 2027.

Kompany who had just overseen Burnley’s relegation to the Sky Bet Championship a season after he led them to the English Premier League replaces Thomas Tuchel at Bayern.

Tuchel and Bayern had agreed to part ways weeks before the conclusion of the season, and the club had made no secret of their search for his replacement.

Julian Nagelsmann, Xabi Alonso, Ralf Rangnick, and newly appointed Barcelona manager Hansi Flick were all approached by the Bundesliga giants, but they eventually settled for Kompany, having failed in their last attempt to convince Tuchel to maintain his position at the club.

“All of us at the club agree that Vincent Kompany is the right coach for FC Bayern and we are very much looking forward to working with him,” Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said via the club’s website.

Despite bolstering their ranks with signings of top players like Harry Kane, Bryan Zaragoza and Kim Min Jae, Bayern had one of the poorest seasons in a while, as they relinquished the Bundesliga to Bayer Leverkusen, making it the first time in 11 years the club didn’t win the league.

The UEFA Champions League was in view for them to prevent a trophyless season, but a loss to Real Madrid in the two-legged semifinal clash all but nailed the last nail in the coffin.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of FC Bayern. It’s a great honour to be able to work for this club.

“I’m now looking forward to the basics: working with the players, building a team. Once the basis is right, success will follow,” Kompany, 38, said after putting pen to paper.
