David De Gea, a former goalkeeper for Manchester United, has been announced to join an Italian side, Florentina, ahead of the new football season. De Gea has been out of active football since his last participation for Manchester United during the FA Cup final in 2023.

But the Spanish goalkeeper has found a new place to express his expertise, which is Florence at the Stadio Artemio Franchi for a period of a season, an option for extension. 

As it stands, the 33-year-old De Gea will be competing for the first-choice position with  Flonrentina’s first-choice goalkeeper, Pietro Terracciano, who has made 53 appearances in all competitions and kept 13 clean sheets.

According to Fabrizio Romano on his YouTube said that De Gea will earn €2m per year (£1.7m), with an extra €1m (£856k) potentially in add-ons. This works out at £32,692 a week.

A robust cv

A youngster, David De Gea joined United from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and went on to make 545 appearances and 190 clean sheets in a career that spanned 12 years at Old Trafford.

During his spell at Old Trafford, he broke Peter Schmeichel’s all-time United record for clean sheets and became the club’s highest appearance maker for a goalkeeper.

De Gea won five major trophies during his time at Manchester United, including the Premier League title in 2013, the FA Cup in 2016, and the Europa League in 2017. In addition to his team success, De Gea has also won numerous individual awards. He has won two Premier League Golden Glove awards, and was named Manchester United’s player of the year for three consecutive seasons.
