Manchester United’s new signing, Joshua Zirkzee, scored the winning goal against Fulham at Old Trafford to claim all three point
Having come on from the bench, Zirkzee scored in the 87th minute to seal a 1-0 win over Fulham in the first Premier Leeague match of the 2024/25 season.
The former Bayern Munich prodigy expressed his joy after the game, describing the win and goal a “perfect” one.
In a post-match interview, he said, “It’s a perfect one, in front of the Stretford End. And a win as well, it couldn’t be any better.”
“I’ve been told scoring at the Stretford End is one of the best feelings at Man Utd. I’m so thankful and blessed to experience it in my first game. It’s an amazing feeling”, he said.
Speaking after the game, head coach, Erik ten Hag hailed Zirkzee and acknowledged the quality the Dutchman brings to the team.
He said, “It’s very good as a striker to score the winning goal in his first game.”
“He has some attributes we didn’t have and straight away he showed it. He is very good in his linking up combinations. We have good ball-playing attacking players and they can benefit from this.”
Zirkzee also earned the praise of Man United legend, Roy Keane, who described the goal as a “brilliant finish”.
The Dutchman joined United from Seria A club, Bologna in July following the end of Netherland’s campaign in the EURO 2024.
However, he would be hoping to get his first start for the club when they face Brighton next on August 24.
