The Dubliner, Dara O’Shea cost the Blues an original £12 million plus a further £3 million in add-ons, as was reported yesterday.

O’Shea was acquired by the Blues after a planned deal to the Wolves fell through. There were speculations that O’Shea had rejected Town’s offer in favor of a transfer to Brentford earlier this month. That transfer never happened, and the Blues were reportedly considering a bid for the Dubliner on Monday.

Town key members downplayed that, stating that the Blues were rumored to be interested in signing Anel Ahmedhodžić of Sheffield United at the time. O’Shea, meantime, was on the verge of signing for Wolves until the two teams couldn’t agree on a deal. At that point, Town focused on the 6′ 1″ center-half.

O’Shea told TownTv: “I’m really excited to sign for the club. It was really hard not to pay attention to everything the team was able to achieve last season. And also to have the chance to join a club with such ambition and momentum was really attractive.

“The manager [Kieran McKenna] was a huge part of why I wanted to come here. I’ve really admired what he and the team have done over the last couple of seasons. At this stage of my career it’s the perfect time to make the move.

“I want to play in the Premier League and test myself against the best players in the world. This is something I want to do for as long as possible, and I can’t think of a better place to do that.

“I know quite a few of the lads in the squad and the style of play really suits me. I know where I can show my strengths and improve my weaknesses. so I’m looking forward getting to work as soon as possible and being part of the culture.”

O’Shea joined West Brom after leaving schoolboy team St Kevin’s to begin his career. He went on loan to Hereford and Exeter while he was with the Baggies. He spent £7 million to transfer to Turf Moor last summer. This is where he played a key role in the Clarets’ 2023–2024 Premier League relegation.
