EPL

In his debut Premier League game at Anfield, Arne Slot had a great afternoon as Liverpool defeated Brentford 2-0 on Sunday. Even though they played at a slower tempo than they had under Jurgen Klopp, the hosts were in control from the onset, and the first goal had a familiar feel to it.

As was often the case under Klopp, Liverpool was merciless when it came to counter-attacking. After Diogo Jota squared the ball to Luis Diaz, the Colombian scored the game-winning goal. After the break, there were several opportunities to increase the lead of the game: Mark Flekken saved Diaz’s goal, and Nathan Collins twice denied Jota with an outstanding defence. However, the second goal seemed certain.

After a Brentford corner was unsuccessful, there was a breakaway, and Luis Diaz spearheaded the attack. After combining with Diogo Jota, he scored the goal on his 100th appearance for the team. The next opportunity for Liverpool came from an overlapping Andy Robertson, but thanks to goalkeeper Mark Flekken, he turned the left-back’s goalbound attempt wide.

With 20 minutes left, Diaz slid the ball into Salah’s pass, and the player curled a signature finish into the far corner to seal the victory against Brentford. The three points were easily earned. But there could have been more goals. After defeating Brentford 2-0, Liverpool registered two wins from two matches.

Gakpo went close with a powerful effort from range and Nunez was well offside with his only chance of the game. There was no change there, but more bright shoots of change as the Slot’s era gets underway.
