Raheem Sterling, a winger for Chelsea, has officially joined Arsenal on a season-long loan. The Blues forward was acquired by the Gunners immediately before the English transfer deadline, and the deal had to be completed by filing a contract document with the Premier League.

Sterling moved from west London to north London and met up at the Emirates Stadium with Mikel Arteta, with whom he had previously worked at Manchester City. After depriving Sterling of starting and publicly telling him to find a new team or risk rotting in the reserves, head coach Enzo Maresca of the Blues effectively drove Sterling out of the organization.

He will be a member of Arsenal’s title-chasing group for the remainder of the 2024–2025 season as they attempt to win their previous side, City, from the Premier League. Arteta lost Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe to Crystal Palace and Fulham respectively this summer.

Sterling will provide Arteta with more alternatives on the left side of Arsenal’s attack. He will play alongside players like Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus, and Leandro Trossard. Additionally, he can cover Bukayo Saka’s right side when necessary. He may even be able to re-enter the England team after joining his teammates in Germany for the 2024 European Championships.

He has also be omitted from Lee Carsley’s squad for the September internationals. Sterling will be unable to face Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, but will be registered in time to face Tottenham Hotspur in his first north London derby after the international break.
