Liverpool’s first match after the closure of the summer transfer window will see them face Manchester United. The Reds will take on their old rivals at Old Trafford on Sunday, looking to maintain their 100 percent start to the season.

New head coach Arne Slot has begun his reign at Anfield with victories over Ipswich Town and Brentford, respectively. Slot will now get his first taste of the rivalry between Liverpool and United when he steps onto the touchline on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds had a relatively quiet window in terms of new signings with only two deals confirmed. The second of those deals was the £10 million (plus £2.5m in add-ons) signing of Federico Chiesa from Juventus. Liverpool confirmed the signing of the Italy international on Thursday, more than 24 hours before the transfer window closed.

Liverpool added Chiesa to their roster in time for Sunday’s matchup against Man United. But the Reds manager clarified in his most recent press conference that he does not anticipate Chiesa playing in the match at Old Trafford.

Slot told reporters on Friday: “We should take care of him in the beginning, he hasn’t played many game minutes yet. We have very good performance staff so we will build him up in the right way and hopefully we can see his quality in the near future.

“He is going to train with us today but there is a bigger chance that he isn’t involved than he is. But if injuries come up in the next two days then we might need him. I don’t expect him to be in but I can’t guarantee it.”

Chiesa might not be able to make his Liverpool debut until September 14 against Nottingham Forest because the international will be in full gear the following week.
