Chelsea have brought back their £15.6m summer signing, Aaron Anselmino from his loan at Boca Juniors to add depth to the squad.
Anselmino, a 19-year-old defender, was signed by Chelsea in the 2024 summer from Boca Juniors, then sent back to Argentina on a one-year loan. However, the club has now decided to recall him halfway through the agreement.
During his time at Boca Juniors, Anselmino played in 18 matches across all competitions and contributed to the team having the fourth-best defense in the Liga Profesional’s second phase. Juan Roman Riquelme, the club president, predicted that Anselmino could become “one of the best defenders in football.”
Anselmino is expected to join Chelsea for training soon before determining his next steps, including the possibility of another loan spell. He mentioned that he spoke with Chelsea’s star player, Enzo Fernandez, about his return and said to ESPN,
“I spoke with the Chelsea advisors, and I talked with Enzo Fernandez when I went there. Everything is going very well; I’m very happy.”
He might even play in the upcoming match on January 11 against Morecambe in the FA Cup third round. Before that, Chelsea will play in the Premier League against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
