Ademola Lookman’s goal which sealed Super Eagles win over Angola was a huge one and brought about massive celebration in the winners camp.
Although, Nigeria’s coach José Peseiro has made defense a priority which has been a commendable factor for the Eagles who had conceded in most of their games before the competition.
Meanwhile, this is the first time for the Super Eagles winning four straight games without conceding in the tournament.
Ademola while speaking with Journalist expressed his excitement after the match:
“I think we are showing very good signs of a team put together, the mindset is right, we fight, we defend and we attack together. That’s important for the team. We won today, so the confidence is good and we continue in this way.”
When asked if he’s looking forward to the semifinals, he added: “Yeah, we are into the semis now and we have a task ahead of us and we understand the importance of that. As a team, we begin to be ready and sure we will win. For me (smiles) just run and fight you know for the result. It’s just there.”
He explains why he is able to efficiently switch and still perform: “You know I play football, I know how to play in different systems so I’m a footballer. So I do what I do.”
Also, Ademola’s father has expressed his happiness with his son’s outstanding play that helped the Super Eagles advance to the semifinal. In an interview, Lookman’s father said he struggled to find the right words to express how his son’s goal sent the Eagles into the semifinal. Smiling passionately, Pa Ademola stated that the victory has given the nation a chance to contend for the AFCON, which was last won eleven years ago.
Well, it’s an understatement if I say I’m happy in fact, I’m overwhelmed. I’m so much happy, at least for Nigeria to win this game, it’s an advantage for us to play in the next game and I can assure you that we are going to win.”
The 26-year-old Atalanta FC forward has been one of Nigeria’s most outstanding performers in Cote d’Ivoire. He has scored three goals to become Nigeria’s highest goalscorer at the AFCON and assisted once in five matches so far.
