Al Khaleej came from two goals down to deliver a shocking 3-2 victory over league leaders, Al Hilal.

The historic triumph handed Al-Hilal their first domestic defeat in 551 days, ending their 46-match unbeaten run in the league.

The upset also ended their remarkable 57-game unbeaten run in all competitions, a streak that included 34 consecutive world-record wins.

This success was masterminded by Georgios Donis, former Al Hilal coach. A brace from Abdullah Al Salem and Fabio, gave the underdogs the victory against the defending champions.

Al Hilal opened the scoring in the 12th minute, as Marcos Leonardo took advantage of a fatal mistake by the Gulf defender.

The league leaders made it 2-0 in the 37th minute, courtesy of Aleksandr Mitrovic’s perfect header.

However, in the last minute of the first half, the host were awarded a penalty kick. Although saved by Al Hilal goalkeeper Bono saved it, the ball returned to Abdullah Al Salem, who put it into the net, making the scoreline 2-1.

Two minutes into the return of the second half, Al-Khaleej equalised through Abdullah Al Salem. The Saudi striker has now made it three consecutive brace in the league.

The hosts completed the shocking comeback, as Fabio scored his team’s third goal in the 85th minute.

Meanwhile, the loss means that Al Hilal could lose the top spot to Al Ittihad if Karim Benzema and co, manage to defeat league bottomers, Al Fateh, on Sunday evening.
