In-demand Bayer Leverkusen’s manager Xabi Alonso has revealed his decision to stay at the German side, amidst interest from Liverpool.
Alonso said that he’s still developing as a coach and believes his position at Leverkusen offers the ideal environment for his ongoing development.
Speaking to the press, the Spaniard said, “It’s been a season of speculation regarding my future.
“Up till now we have been busy and focused on the season and I wanted to reflect during the international break and take a decision.
“Last week I had a meeting when I informed (Leverkusen’s directors) of my decision to continue being coach of Bayer Leverkusen.”
The 42-year-old added, “At the moment this is the right place for me to develop as a coach, I am a young coach.
“Right now this is the right place. I have to thank the management.
“The club had been supportive and I feel respected by all departments.”
Alonso is on the verge of winning Bayer Leverkusen their first-ever Bundesliga title. The Die Werkself currently sits stop the table with 70 points, 10 more than second-placed Bayern Munich with just eight league games to the end of the season.
