Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed the availability of Super Eagles’ Victor Boniface ahead of the club’s Wednesday’s German Cup semi-final clash against Fortuna Dusseldorf.
Recall Boniface picked up an adductor muscle injury at Nigeria’s camp a few days before the commencement of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in January.
The striker, however, is now back to fitness, although there’s still a limit to how many minutes he can play.
“We are in a super situation. We have no injuries and a full squad. Boni (Boniface) is also back in the squad,” Alonso told a press conference ahead of the Die Werkself cup game tomorrow.
Asked how long Boniface could play in the game, the Spaniard added, “Not 90 minutes. 45 maybe not. But maybe 30. He has made a good recovery and has trained well. He has a strong mentality to come back. He can’t wait to get back.”
Before his injury layoff, Boniface had scored 10 goals and registered seven assists.
Bayer Leverkusen remains the only unbeaten club in Europe for the 2023/24 season, and they’re on the verge of winning their first-ever Bundesliga title.
