Amorim remains silent amidst Manchester United interest

Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim has remained silent about his future amid growing speculation linking him to the vacant Manchester United managerial position.

Manchester United officially confirmed the sacking of Erik ten Hag on Monday, and The Athletic reported that the Red Devils have identified Amorim as their top target to replace the Dutchman. Sporting CP subsequently acknowledged United’s interest in triggering Amorim’s €10 million release clause.

Despite the intense speculation, Amorim refused to confirm or deny any decision regarding his future. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday evening, he stated, “Listen to the club statement, and that’s all there is at the moment.”

He further added, “No decision has been made at the moment.” When asked about his availability for Sporting’s upcoming match against Estrela da Amadora, Amorim said, “I can’t promise anything. Let’s see what happens in the future.”

Amorim has been a highly successful manager at Sporting CP, leading the club to two league titles and a Portuguese League Cup in his first two full seasons. His impressive track record and innovative style of play have attracted significant interest from top European clubs like Liverpool last summer.

Meanwhile, Ruud van Nistelrooy has been appointed as Manchester United’s caretaker manager and will be in charge for the upcoming matches against Leicester City and Chelsea.
