Arne Slot emerges as Liverpool’s number one managerial target

Arne Slot, Feyenoord’s manager has become Liverpool’s top choice to succeed Jurgen Klopp as manager when the latter steps down in the summer. The Reds are currently looking for a new coach and have travelled to Feyenoord. Slot has made an impression with the Dutch team.

Slot won the league championship in 2022–2023 and led the squad to triumph in the KNVB Cup final this past weekend. The Times reports that although the Dutchman’s contract with Feyenoord still has two years left, he is prepared to advance in his coaching career.

Former midfielder Xabi Alonso has already stated he will stay at Bayer Leverkusen. Ruben Amorim, on the other hand who has been linked to the Reds, also looks poised to stay at Sporting. Due to all of this, Slot has become the new favourite. It’s been said that Liverpool likes his “ability to improve players and his aggressive, high-octane playing style.”

Feyenoord technical director Dennis te Kloese spoke about Slot’s future after the KNVB Cup win. He said: “I think it is logical that he is in such a good position. It is very special how he has manifested himself in recent years and has really given Feyenoord a face. We responded by extending his contract. In any case, we assume that he will also be our trainer next year. We have experienced this situation before and will take good care of our own interests.”

In their first 20 competitive games of 2024, Feyenoord kept 12 clean sheets. This is a tie for most in the first 20 games of a calendar year since 1954. While Klopp looks to wrap out his career on a strong note, Liverpool will keep searching for his replacement. The Merseyside derby between the Reds and Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday will put them back in the running for the Premier League title.
