Incoming Liverpool manager is expected to have a different role than current manager Jurgen Klopp does with the team. Slot has been all but confirmed as the candidate to take over the reins from Klopp, who is expected to conclude his nine-year term at Anfield at the end of the current campaign.
This summer, the manager of Feyenoord will conclude his tenure with the Dutch team and take over the Premier League side. In contrast to Klopp, who managed Liverpool, the Dutchman will assume the position of head coach, according to The Times. The position of head coach, which Slot will assume from next campaign, entails overseeing the team’s on-field operations in addition to coaching and training Liverpool’s first squad.
Richard Hughes, the sporting director, will oversee recruitment and other aspects of the football department, and the Dutchman will work closely with him. Michael Edwards, the team’s new Chief Executive of Football, who rejoined the organisation last month, will supervise the two. Conversely, Klopp carried out the responsibilities of both Slot and Hughes because he also had a significant influence over the club’s hiring practices and other athletic endeavours.
According to reports, Slot is amenable to playing a less important position than Klopp does at the moment. The Dutchman feels at ease at Feyenoord’s present setup, which consists of a sporting director and head coach.
Liverpool has agreed to a compensation settlement for up to £9.4 million ($12 million) with Feyenoord, and it is anticipated that the Merseyside club will formally confirm Slot’s signing in the coming days. The concerned parties won’t be permitted to announce the relocation until personal terms have been decided upon by the two, though.
