Gabriel was Arsenal derby day hero as he scored the only goal to secure a third-straight victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Brazilian defender played over the Spurs defence at 64 minutes to divert home a Bukayo Saka corner kick. Gabriel’s win ensured Arsenal remain unbeaten in the Premier League this campaign. They claimed a hat-trick of wins at the Tottenham home for the first time since 1988.

The Gunners started the premier League game without Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard for the first time since the England international’s arrival. However, midfielder Jorginho, Thomas Partey and Kai Havertz were superb throughout.

As is usually the case on derby days, the home support was boisterous from the start. That propelled Spurs in the early stages. David Raya was forced into action twice in the opening eight minutes, pushing away Dejan Kulusevski shot from close range. This is before tipping an awkward untouched cross from the Swede around his post.

However, Arsenal retaliated, creating the two greatest opportunities in a span of ninety seconds. First, in minute 17, Kai Havertz met a cross with his head, and Guglielmo Vicario had to make a wonderful reaction save to keep it out.

Vicario was also fortunate that Cristian Romero was not ignorant of the ball’s potential to sneak in. Subsequently, Gabriel Martinell was released on goal down the left by a deft pass from Leandro Trossard.

But, as he ran into the box, he was unable to find bearing and Vicario easily claimed the goal. Twelve of our sixteen goals against Spurs under Mikel Arteta came in the first half.

In fact, the hosts had just a few half-chances. . Referee Jarred Gillet was the busiest man in the first half as derby day tempers flared, handing out seven yellow cards. This happens to be the joint most cards ever handed in the first forty-five minutes of a Premier League game.

This meant that Arsenal won their sixth straight league away game. Winning ten of their previous 11 away games, and also maintaining a ninth clean sheet as they once again emerged victorious.

Next week, on Thursday, Arsenal will go to Italy for their first Champions League match of the season against Atalanta. On Sunday, September 22, they will play defending champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
