In an effort to keep the core group together, Mikel Arteta wants Arsenal to extend the contracts of defenders Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Meanwhile, Tomiyasu’s deal from Bologna cost a sum of £19.5 million ($25 million), White’s arrival to Emirate from Brighton was around £50 million ($63 million) in 2021.

Both players Tomiyasu and White have less than two years left on their current contracts; the Japanese full-back’s terms expire in 2025, while White’s is set to stay at the Emirates at least until 2026. Meanwhile, with the stakes for Arsenal to remain a contender in the EPL, securing important players like White and Tomiyasu on new contracts would be part of the club’s strategic vision, which aims to keep the squad cohesive through 2027 and beyond.

Arteta speaking with Journalists about the possibility of a new deals for White and Tomiyasu, he said: “That’s what we’ve been doing in the last three years.  Apart from strengthening the squad, rewarding them as well and having some stability in the squad. Those decisions are very important.”

A number of Arsenal players, including Aaron Ramsdale, William Saliba, Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Magalhaes, Martin Odegaard, and Bukayo Saka, have already committed to new deals in recent times. Conversely, summer additions with long-term contracts include Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Jurrien Timber. It is understood that the Gunners board, which has spent over £600 million on incoming players since Arteta took over four years ago, does not want to spend heavily in the upcoming seasons.

Brentford’s Ivan Toney, though, is a player that Arsenal has long been interested in and might be their only target in the winter transfer window. With the exception of adding another attacker, Arteta is thought to be satisfied with the strength of the current team, reducing the need for sizable future expenditures.
