According to reports, Arsenal is presently making headway with transfer talks involving Romeo Lavia and also preparing to increase their offer to acquire Declan Rice to £90 million. West Ham had turned down the Gunners’ initial offer of £80 million plus £10 million add-ons for Rice because they believe the midfielder is worth more than £100 million to the Hammers.
They are willing to make an improved offer of £90 million upfront, which may go to £100 million with add-ons, but they are tenacious in their pursuit of the England international. Rice’s steadfast commitment to go to the Emirates Stadium before the end of the month provides Arsenal an advantage over other rivals.
According to Fabrizio Romano, there may be other new midfielders joining Mikel Arteta’s squad in addition to Rice, with the Gunners making headway in their pursuit of Southampton’s Romeo Lavia. They are yet to submit an official bid with the Saints set to demand a club record fee of about £50 million ($64m).
Although Manchester United is also interested in Lavia, they seem to be more focused in acquiring Mason Mount from Chelsea. As Mauricio Pochetiino looks to rebuild his team during the summer transfer season, the Blues are also closely monitoring the happenings.
West Ham has agreed to let go of Rice this summer, but they have made it clear that he won’t be leaving for a bargain price, and any interested party must meet their expectations. Manchester City is apparently interested in the English player as well, although Bayern Munich recently withdrew from the race.
