After bottling the Premier League trophy to Manchester City last season, Arsenal started this new campaign on a brighter side, grabbing a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest at the Emirates Stadium.

Although the game was delayed by an additional 30 minutes, the kick-off didn’t lose the expected atmosphere in London this afternoon. Forest almost stole the lead early on in the match, after a series of poor defending chanced Brennan Johnson to be faced one-on-one with Aaron Ramsdale, but the forward skied his effort wide off target.

The away team however paid for the missed opportunity in the 26th minute, after a nice footwork from Gabriel Martinelli freed Eddie Nketiah to cut and send a nice shot past his former teammate Matt Turner, and fire his side 1-0 up.

Six minutes later, the Gunners doubled their lead through their postal boy Bukayo Saka, who curled his effort into the top corner to stamp his side’s lead before the halftime break.

Arsenal’s early dominance in the second half was however curtailed by an injury to summer signing Jurrien Timber, which followed with an array of missed chances from Mikel Arteta’s side.

After failing to create much meaningful attempts at goal, Forest struck one back through substitute Taiwo Awoniyi in the 82nd minute, after the Nigerian international connected well with Anthony Elanga’s pass to snatch his side’s consolation goal in a game that ended 2-1 a few minutes later.
