A few hours after West Ham United turned down Manchester City’s £90m bid for Declan Rice, Arsenal has submitted an improved bid worth up to £105m for the midfielder.
While this offer is the closest bid to West Ham’s valuation of their captain, the Gunners would be hoping this will fend off City from their targets and force the Hammers to compromise on their stance.
This will be Arsenal’s third bid for Rice after a club-record proposal worth up to £90m ( £75m plus £15m add-ons) was rejected by West Ham earlier this month.
Should the deal materializes, it would be the record transfer fee for a British player.
Although Rice’s current contract with West Ham is set to expire in 2024, with an option for a further year, Chairman David Sullivan has confirmed that Englishman will be allowed to leave the club for the right price this summer.
Coupled with this, the Gunners are reportedly on the brink of unveiling Kai Havertz as a new summer signing, with the German said to have completed the first part of his medical ahead of a £65m transfer to the Emirates from Stamford Bridge.
