Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Arsenal is looking to sign a striker in the January transfer window. They have already identified potential targets. The need for a new player has increased after Gabriel Jesus suffered season-ending knee ligament damage.
The Gunners managed to score two goals in their last game against Tottenham. However, more attacking options are needed to compete for the Premier League title.
Arteta said to TNT Sports, “Yes, for sure. Because we lost two players, big players, Bukayo [Saka] – that can be out for up to three months, so that’s a long time – and Gabby [Jesus], that’s going to be out for a long, long, long time.
We are going to try, for sure. We are actively looking at. I think we have lost two very important players, we have 14 players in the squad, and we play every three days. We will try, but let’s see who we can get.”
Before facing Spurs, Arteta mentioned, “We know who we want to sign. We have very clear ideas of the players that we want, yes. It was before Gabriel Jesus’ injury and it was with Gabby injured right now and we have to wait and see how things develop.”
Arsenal will hope to land one of their top targets as soon as possible, with a 2-1 derby victory seeing them close to within four points of table-topping Liverpool. They will also host Aston Villa on Saturday.
