After spending about five years at Barcelona Femini, Nigeria’s legendary footballer Asisat Oshoala, has finally secured a move away from the Catalan giants to Bay FC—a relatively new club in the National Women’s Soccer League.

Founded April 4 2023, Bay FC secured the services of Oshoala on a contract until 2026, with an option to extend by another year, ahead of their debut National Women’s Soccer League campaign that’s going to begin later in March.

The six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year joined Barcelona on loan in January 2019, and has now departed with a legacy steeped in excellence, having notched up 117 goals in 162 appearances (the fourth-ranked in Barça’s women’s history), and won a whopping 14 titles, including 2 Champions Leagues, 4 Leagues, 3 Queen’s Cups, 4 Spanish Super Cups and 1 Catalan Cup.

To have the opportunity to add a player of Asisat’s quality, experience and winning pedigree to our roster is an exciting and important day for the club and the NWSL,” Bay FC General Manager Lucy Rushton said.

She added, “She brings a top-class mentality to the field combined with pace and technical ability that allows her to lead the line, while also giving those players around her the license to be creative and thrive in space. Asisat is a proven goalscorer at the most elite levels of World football, and she comes here to continue that with Bay FC.”

The 29-year-old started her professional career at Nigerian Women’s Football League side FC Robo in 2009, before she moved on to represent Rivers Angels between 2013 to 2015. The Ikorodu-born star then moved to Europe, where she has played in the colours of Liverpool Ladies, Arsenal Ladies, Dalian Quanjian FC in China, and FC Barcelona Up next for Asisat Oshoala is Bay FC.
