The possibility of Aston Villa signing Sevilla left-back Marcos Acuña appears to be off now that the player has been ruled out due to a muscular injury. Diario de Sevilla made reports on a statement from Sevilla outlining the left-back’s most recent setback.
Since well over a week now, Aston Villa has been trying to sign Acuña because football director Monchi wants to bring him back to Villa Park. Despite initial uncertainty in the negotiations, agreements seem to progressively move forward between the two clubs.
However, according to most recent updates, the negotiations are at a standstill since the former refused to concede to Sevilla’s requests. Acuña, though, is said to be eager to make the move and had already reached an agreement with Villa to complete the swap before the transfer window close.
However, it appears that those discussions are now entirely off as Acuña has been out for a number of weeks and is expected to stay out till after the international break.
Diario reports: “He will be out for several weeks after confirming a myotendinous injury to the femoral biceps of his right leg, which occurred in Vitoria in the game against Deportivo Alavés, as confirmed by the Medical Services of Sevilla FC.”
“The period of sick leave for this type of injury usually takes several weeks, although follow-up tests will be carried out on the player to re-evaluate the deadlines for his return to work and reinstatement.”
Acuña has already seen a number of setbacks in his career, including a month of absence due to muscle difficulties last season and many muscle-related injuries when playing for Sporting Club de Portugal. His deal to Aston Villa is most likely over as a result of this most recent injury, which looks to be very serious.
