Real Madrid secured a much-needed three points in the UEFA Champions League by defeating Atalanta 3-2 in Bergamo.
The defending champions have had a rough start to their title defence campaign, suffering three defeats in five games. Before the game, they had just six points and were far from the top-eight spot.
However, the Spanish champions ensured they got all three points as they played an Atalanta side, that hasn’t lost in the 2024/25 UCL campaign.
Los Blancos made a fast start to the game as they went ahead in the opening 10th minute. Kylian Mbappe did brilliantly to create a chance, which he eventually buried into the back of the net.
Meanwhile, the Frenchman’s night went from good to sour, as he was forced off the game with a muscular injury in the 30th minute.
Atalanta made it worse as they equalized in the dying stage of the first half, courtesy of Charles de Ketelaere’s penalty kick.
Real Madrid retook the lead as Vinicius Jr received a through ball, and made the scoreline 2-1.
The Brazilian then assisted the third goal as he released Jude Bellingham who made no mistake to double Madrid’s lead.
Atalanta tried to fight back but could only reduce the scoreline, as Ademola Lookman scored a beauty to make it 3-2.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side are now 18th on the log with nine points, while Atalanta are 9th with 11 points.
