Atletico Madrid came from behind to defeat Deportivo Alaves 2-1 to maintain winning ways, in Diego Simeone’s 700th game in charge of the club.
Antoine Greizmann and Alexander Sorloth secured the win for the Rojiblancos, after Alaves kept the lead for almost 70 minutes.
Simeone’s side went behind early as Javi Galan conceded a penalty for a handball. Jon Guridi sent goalkeeper Jan Oblak the wrong way from the spot to make it 1-0 in the seventh minute.
The hosts fought for an equaliser but were unable to level at the first interval.
However, they found their way back when Sorloth’s header hit the arm of Abdel Abqar and were awarded a penalty. Griezmann converted the penalty to draw level in the 76th minute.
Ten minutes later, Atlético got the winner when Rodrigo De Paul fed Sorloth and the Norwegian attacker squeezed in the winner.
Sorloth’s late winner capped Simeone’s 700th game with a win, moving Atletico up to second place in the Spanish top-flight.
The Argentine is the first coach to manage 700 matches with the same La Liga club. He has been in charge of Atletico Madrid since 2011.
