Association of Tennis players (ATP) has come out to clear the air regarding Jannik Sinner anti-doping issues.
The 23-year-old Italian and World’s top ranked tennis player who won the Cincinnati Open last week, on Monday received an anti-doping sanction after twice testing positive for a banned substance.
While clarifying the public after rumors of sinner’s sanction has gone viral, the ATP said Sinner is not guilty of any faults or not abiding by the rules.
“We are encouraged that no fault or negligence has been found on Jannik Sinner’s part. We would also like to acknowledge the robustness of the investigation process and independent evaluation of the facts under the Tennis Anti-Doping Programme (TADP), which has allowed him to continue competing. This has been a challenging matter for Jannik and his team, and underscores the need for players and their entourages to take utmost care in the use of products or treatments. Integrity is paramount in our sport,” ATP said in a statement.
This comes as a shock to the tennis world as the US Open is set to go under way in New York in less than a week.
Sinner will now escaped a ban for failing two anti-doping tests, after a tribunal accepted that the contamination occurred during a massage from his physiotherapist.
