They are the first Spanish team to win the award, since it was created by France Football.

They beat Borussia Dortmund, Girona, Bayer Leverkusen and Manchester City to claim the award for the first time.

Meanwhile, the Spanish giants are absent at the ceremony, following claims that the opted against attending.
