Barcelona defeated Real Madrid, 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu, to extend their lead over the bitter rivals to six points.

Robert Lewandowski scored twice with Lamine Yamal and Raphinha also getting on the scoresheet as Barcelona comfortably thrashed Madrid.

Both teams played an intensed first half draw, as Barcelona dominated the midfield and Madrid making waves on the flank.

Kylian Mbappe, playing in his first-ever El Clasico, had efforts in each half ruled out for offside. The Frenchman was caught offside on seven occasions in the first 20 minutes as Barcelona exploited their high-line defense style.

However, the Catalans broke the deadlock as Marc Casado’s defense breaking pass met Lewandowski, who calmly sent a low curved shot past Andriy Lunin.

The Poland striker made it 2-0, two minutes after. He headed home Balde’s pinpoint cross to extend Barcelona’s lead.

Lewandowski missed two gilt-edged opportunities to get make it an hat-trick at the famous El Clasico.

Luckily, Jude Bellingham and Mbappe spurned opportunities to get Real Madrid back in the game.

Barca compounded Madrid woes by adding the third goal. Lewandowski was also involved in the goal as teenage sensation, Yamal roofed a shot home to net his first El Clasico goal.

Raphina cemented it all as he chipped Lunin late on to make it 4-0, capping an embarrassing night for the hosts.

The win ensured Barca maintained the highest unbeaten record, as Madrid was on the verge of tying up. Prior to the game, Madrid were 42-games unbeaten in the league, a game away from Ernesto Valverde’s Barcelona 43-games record.

The Catalans also gave Madrid their first league loss and their first win in about two years and half at the Santiago Bernabeu.
