Barcelona whipped Valencia 7-1 to stay awake in the race for the La Liga title.

Coming from a stunning comeback against Benfica in the midweek Champions League contest, the Catalans were in high spirit, as they dismantled Valencia with five first half goals in Catalonia.

The ruthless victory started with an early party damage as Frenkie de Jong slotted home his first home goal of the season.

Five minutes after, Ferran Torres doubles the lead from Balde’s cross. Raphinha then added the third with a calm finish from Fermin Lopez’s assist before the 15 minute mark.

Fermin’s double made it five before halftime. The Spanish midfielder Fermin scored in the 24th minute before netting a rebound in stoppage-time to make it 5-0.

After the restart, Valencia battled hard for a consolation, and Hugo Duro stabbed home for some pride on the hour.

However, the hosts were dar from finished as Robert Lewandowski cruised off the bench to notch a sixth goal.

Nine minutes later, Ferran’s cross met Tárrega Cesar, who netted an own goal to cap the ruthless victory.

Despite their incredible win, Barcelona still remain in third place in the La Liga table. They are three points behind Atletico Madrid and seven from league leaders, Real Madrid.

Barcelona hosts Alaves next weekend before an instant Valencia rematch in the Copa del Rey quarter finals on February 6.
