Bayern Munich defeated Heidenheim 4-2, as they end their winless two-game run, extending their lead on the table.

Vincent Kompany’s side, who suffered a 1-0 cup defeat to Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday, were without the injured Harry Kane, Manuel Neuer and Serge Gnabry for the home contest.

However, the Bavarians ensured they claimed all three points at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern got off to a good start when an unmarked Dayot Upamecano headed in the opener in the 19th minute.

However, Upamecano’s defensive error cost them to concede five minutes into the second half. His poor back pass allowed Mathias Honsak to claim the ball and fire past Daniel Peretz to equalise.

Bayern took the lead back through Jamal Musiala. The substituted playmaker took just five minutes to make an impact as his low drive from the edge of the box restored Bayern’s lead.

Another Bayern substitute, Leon Goretzka, then added a third with a deflected shot in the 84th minute. Heidenheim however pulled a goal back through a Niclas Doresch tap-in.

Musiala then settled the contest as he ran onto a through ball from his own half before scoring in the stoppage time to make it 4-2.

The result sees Bayern extend their lead at the top to six points over second-placed Eintracht Frankfurt.

Meanwhile, newly-promoted Heidenheim, remain in 16th place, despite the loss.
