Marco Reus and Borrusia Dortmund have decided to part ways this summer, bringing an end to the midfielder’s 12-year stint at the club.

Reus signed a one-year contract renewal with the BVB outfit last March. With the deal set to expire this June, both parties have decided against the continuity of their relationship.

“I’m incredibly grateful for and proud of this special time at my club Borussia Dortmund,” Reus said as reported by the club’s media.

The 34-year-old added, “I have spent more than half of my life at this club and enjoyed every day, even though there have of course been difficult moments too. I already know now that I will find it difficult to say goodbye at the end of the season.

“And yet I’m happy that there is now clarity and that we can focus fully on the very important final games that we still have to play. We have a big objective in our sights that we all want to achieve together.

“To do so, we will need every single one of our unbelievable fans, to whom I would like to express my sincere thanks for their unbelievable support over the years.”

Rues made 424 senior appearances for Dortmund over the past 12 years— registering 168 goals, 128 assists and four trophies.

Dortmund says both parties will exert their focus on a decent finish in the league, alongside an unwavering commitment to fulfilling their UCL dream, after a 1-0 victory over Paris Saint Germain in their UEFA Champions League (UCL) semi-final first-leg clash.
