Alexander Bublik clinched a hard-earned victory at the Open Sud de France in Montpellier on Sunday, completing a remarkable week of comeback wins by defeating Borna Coric to clinch the Montpellier Crown. The 26-year-old Kazakhstani battled past Croatian Borna Coric with a scoreline of 5-7, 6-2, 6-3, reclaiming the trophy he had previously won in 2022.
In a historic feat, Bublik became the first player ever to triumph in an ATP Tour event after dropping the opening set in every match throughout the tournament. Reflecting on his journey to victory, Bublik expressed gratitude to the crowd for their unwavering support and shared his aspirations for future success.
Despite a challenging start against the fourth-seeded Coric, Bublik maintained his composure and adapted his strategy to turn the tide in his favor. Employing a combination of drop shots and well-timed serves, he kept Coric on the move and eventually secured the win in a two-hour, eighteen-minute battle.
Bublik’s dominant performance on serve, winning 80% of the points on his first serve and delivering 19 aces, played a crucial role in his victory. With this triumph, Bublik will ascend four places to reach a new career high of No. 23 in the Pepperstone ATP World Rankings on Monday, adding another milestone to his already impressive career tally of four ATP Tour championships.
