Napoli’s manager Francesco Calzona believes his side still needs a lot of improvement, following their vital 2-1 win over Juventus at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Sunday.

Coming from an impressive 6-1 win over Sassuolo in their matchday 26 fixture, Kvicha Kvaratskhelia scored a volley to put Napoli ahead against Juventus in the 42nd minute of their matchday 27.

Consequently, Federico Chiesa equalized for the Bianconeri in the 81st minute, before Victor Osimhen won a penalty to hand Calzona’s men a lifeline. Wojciech Szczęsny did save the Nigerian spot-kick, but Giacomo Raspadori reacted swiftly to covert the rebound and secure the maximum points for Partenopei in front of their home fans yesterday.

Reacting to the vital victory in a post-match interview with Dazn, the 55-year-old said, “We are on the right track, but there is a lot still to be done. I am very happy for the victory, I saw a team that wants to improve itself,” he said.

“In winning this match, the team sent a signal that it wants to achieve important targets. I am pleased to see such a united side that wants to keep getting stronger.”

The Italian added, “I cannot perform miracles in 10 days, we need more time, but we don’t have time. We must improve in possession and make more vertical passes. I believe in playing out from the back and asking the lads not to kick the ball away. Juve made it difficult for us, but we’re happy.

“I don’t think I did anything in particular, I just told the lads to relax and apply themselves in training. I tried not to talk too much, as with everything that happened, it was the last thing they needed.”

Next up for Francesco Calzona and Napoli is their Serie A matchday 28 fixture against Torino at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on February 8.
