The Cleveland Cavaliers have reached agreement on a one-year contract to reunite with center Tristan Thompson, his agent Rich Paul said Monday night.
Thompson led the Cavaliers to an NBA championship in 2016. The 32-year-old spent nine seasons with Cleveland, playing on LeBron James’ teams in four consecutive Finals. James and he shared the Los Angeles Lakers late last season.
Thompson’s contract was verified by Paul, CEO of Klutch Sports, in a text message to The Associated Press.
Thompson, the No. 4 overall pick of the Cavaliers in the 2011 NBA Draught, will provide Cleveland more depth up top, toughness, and a guy with a tonne of postseason experience. In 94 postseason games, he has participated.
Last season, Cleveland finished the regular season with a record of 51-31 and returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2018, however they were eliminated by the much more imposing New York Knicks in five games.
Additionally, Thompson has played for the teams Boston, Sacramento, Indiana, and Chicago.
