Looking at Chelsea’s dreadful start to the Premier League season, Mauricio Pochettino has said it will take his team two years to reach their target level. So far, they only have one victory in their first six games in the English top division; the Blues’ first rough start of the season in recent times.

The Argentine gaffer signed a two-year contract to take over the team after the departure of interim manager Frank Lampard who only stayed till the end of the 2022/2023 season but only a few months into his tenure as manager of the West London team, he has been under criticism as Chelsea remain goalless.

In the summer transfer window, many new players joined the team, including Moises Caicedo, Nicolas Jackson, Robert Sanchez, Cole Palmer, and Christopher Nkunku. Despite the investment in the team, there have been questions about Pochettino’s coaching approach because his forwards have been struggling to find the back of the net this season. Some have hinted that his lack of tactical guidance for the strikers is the cause of their poor start.

When asked how much time it will take for his project to pay off given the length of his contract, Pochettino said: “Two years? I think I understand because the owners and sporting director they explain – it is about [knowing] people and if they are happy with us and we are happy with them”

“We are working. It is not a problem to have two years or five years or a ten year contract – the most important [thing] is to be in the right project and for them to have identified us as the right people to drive this ship.”

Chelsea would hope to secure a second league victory of the season when they play against Fulham on Monday.
