Carlos Alcaraz strong performance in Beijing this year continued on Tuesday after an outstanding semifinal display to reach his maiden China Open final.
The 21-year-old Spaniard on Tuesday overcame Daniil Medvedev in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 to reach the final at the ATP 500 in Beijing under 90 minutes.
Alcaraz maintained his push to defeat Sinner in the competition to win the ATP Year-End No. 1 presented by PIF with his semi-final triumph. The Spaniard is presently behind Sinner by 2,860 points in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin, but he can close the gap if he wins against Buyunchaokete later on Tuesday.
Moving to a record of 7-1, Carlos Alcaraz has claimed his seventh ATP top five victory of 2024, surpassing Jannik Sinner (6) for the outright most ATP top five wins of any player so far this year.
Wednesday’s final on Diamond Court will be Alcaraz’s 21st tour-level final (15-5), joining Rafael Nadal, Tommy Robredo and David Ferrer as the only Spanish finalists in Beijing.
