Damian Lillard, the Milwaukee Bucks’ All-Star guard, has been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in his right calf. DVT is a condition where a blood clot forms in a deep vein, typically in the legs. This can be a serious condition, as the clot can break loose and travel to the lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism.
Lillard has been ruled out indefinitely and is taking blood-thinning medication to stabilize the clot. The Bucks’ medical staff and Lillard’s doctors are working closely to ensure his safe return to play. Bucks General Manager Jon Horst emphasized that Lillard’s health is the top priority, and they will support him throughout his recovery.
This diagnosis isn’t entirely new to the NBA, as other players like Victor Wembanyama and Chris Bosh have dealt with similar conditions. Wembanyama, the San Antonio Spurs’ center, was diagnosed with DVT in his shoulder and is also on blood-thinning medication.
Lillard’s injury is a low blow to the Bucks, who are currently fifth in the Eastern Conference standings. His absence will be felt, especially with the playoffs approaching. However, the Bucks are optimistic about Lillard’s likely return this season, thanks to the quick identification and treatment of the condition.
