Novak Djokovic defeated Cameron Norrie and helped Serbia into Saturday’s Davis Cup semi-finals in Malaga on Thursday night with victory over Great Britain.

After World No. 55 Miomir Kecmanovic had earlier maintained composure to defeat Jack Draper 7-6(2), 7-6(6) in a match played earlier, the 36-year-old World No. 1 overcame British No. 1 Cameron Norrie 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and forty-one minutes to give Serbia an unassailable 2-0 lead.

In 2010, Djokovic helped Serbia win its first Davis Cup championship. In the opening game of the second set, Djokovic, the 98-time tour winner, broke the serve to seize control of the match reiterating his strong serve from Turin, Djokovic dropped just eight points on serve while hitting 16 forehand winners, which was twice as many as Norrie

The loss means that Great Britain will return to the playoffs in February, where they will try to keep their place at the top of the sport for another year, barring a wildcard into the Davis Cup Finals.

Saturday’s semifinal match between Serbia and Italy will feature the third meeting between ATP Finals finalists Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner in 11 days. Sinner guided Italy to the semi-finals with a 2-1 victory over the Netherlands earlier on Thursday, continuing his incredible form.

Djokovic suffered a setback in the third set during a tie-break to Sinner at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin less than two weeks ago. However, he won the championship match last Sunday, 6-3, 6-3, to get revenge on his opponent.

Into the semi-finals of their Lexus ATP Head2Head series, the 40-time ATP Masters 1000 champion will hold a 4-1 lead.

Sinner defeated Tallon Griekspoor 7-6(3), 6-1, and then defeated Griekspoor and Wesley Koolhof in tandem with Lorenzo Sonego. 6-3 and 6-4. The Netherlands had taken the lead after Botic van de Zandschulp defeated Matteo Arnaldi 6-7 (6), 6-3, 7-6 (7).
