Daniel De Rossi has finally given his verdict on Paulo Dybala’s best position, saying the Argentine will play better under similar tactical freedom Francesco Totti benefited from.

De Rossi said this in a press conference ahead of Roma’s Seria A round of 23 match against Cagliari tomorrow, 8:45 pm (WAT), at Stadio Olimpico.

We are tied with a nice bond,” De Rossi said in the press conference, as reported by Forza Roma.

“With him, I lived the most exciting moments here. First when we came close to winning the title and then when we both left the club of our hearts. It was great to live these emotions with a man like him.

“I have a sincere affection for him, I will be more pleased to see him again and beat him this time after having found him last year in Cagliari. In addition to respect as a coach, I have a true affection for him.”

De Rossi on Dybala’s tactical edge

There are players who have talent and need more freedom,” he answered, when asked if there’s a special tactical requirement for Dybala.

It can happen that he makes a decisive move, but the important thing is that another player fills that space. Our target is to fill spaces well, beat the opponents’ pressing and play closer to the edge of the box.

“He does what he wants and it’s right to do so. I played with Totti for 20 years and nobody would tell him where to play. We only needed to keep our heads down, wait for the ball and score. If we realise that Dybala has this sort of talent, then we need to use it.”

The stakes in Roma vs Cagliari’s clash

Tomorrow’s clash will be Daniele De Rossi’s third game in charge of Roma, after he became the first manager since Rudi Garcia (in September 2013) to win his first two Seria A games in charge of the club.

Should the 40-year-old guide the Giallorossi to a win tomorrow, they’ll extend their record at the Stadio Olimpico to 14 matches, to add their 11 wins and two draws in front of their home fans.
