With Mateu Alemany about to leave Barcelona, formal midfielder Anderson Luis de Souza “Deco” has rejoined the team as the new sporting director. Between 2004 and 2008, the former midfielder for Portugal played for Barcelona, where he won the Champions League in 2006. In 2013, he gave from playing, and a year later, he started working as an agent.

Deco is taking over as director of sport for the first time, and according to Barcelona, he will collaborate with outgoing director Alemany up until the end of the transfer window, after which Alemany will resign.

The goal for Deco will be to attempt and make a few fresh signings before the window closes. Jude Bellingham’s big-time signing by Real Madrid puts pressure on the Catalans to defend their La Liga championship.

Barcelona have confirmed his appointment, with a statement that read:

“FC Barcelona and Anderson Luis de Souza – Deco have reached an agreement for the incorporation into the Club.The player of the first team between the years 2004 and 2008 signs the contract as sporting director of the Club for the next three seasons.”

In addition to this news, Barcelona also confirmed that Mateu Alemany will be leaving his post as the sport director of football after the current transfer window ends on September 2. What is clear now is that Deco will be the highest authority at the club as far as transfers and sporting matters are concerned.
