Bayern Munich takes on Borussia Dortmund in the first Klassiker of the 2024/25 German Bundesliga campaign.
Bayern have been in superb form, winning their last seven games in all competitions. They are coming into the fixture, oñ the back of the UCL victory over Paris Saint-Germain.
Vincent Kompany’s side have also been solid defensively, having kept clean sheets in all seven fixtures, while Manuel Neuer hasn’t conceded a goal for 664 minutes.
Ahead of the match, Kompany expressed his pleasure at his team’s form, while also looking ahead to a crucial run of fixtures.
“Recent results are good, we’ve earned that, but it’s in the past. Now it’s about maintaining this level and continuing to improve,” Kompany said.
The Belgian is also excited at the Klassiker clash, going into his first Dortmund encounter as Bayern boss.
“It’s Der Klassiker. I like it when games like this get a special build-up. Everyone’s excited for the match”, he stated.
Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund
Borussia also come into Der Klassiker with a good spirit.
Sahin’s side won their last League game 4-0 at home to Freiburg, before earning a 3-0 victory away at Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.
The latter result ended a run of six straight away defeats for BVB across all competitions.
However, they have a good record at home, having won all eight matches at their Signal Iduna Park so far.
Playing against a strong Bayern side, Sahin is confident of his side winning the game at home.
“Our demand is to win at home. There’s no reason not to be confident. We know what sort of energy we have in our stadium”, Sahin said.
Borussia are missing captain Emre Can (suspended) and Karim Adeyemi (muscular). There’s also doubt over the fitness of Julian Brandt following a thigh issue, but Niklas Süle is set to return.
Meanwhile, Bayern are still without Joao Palhinha (muscular), Hiroki Ito (metatarsal), Josip Stanisic (knee) and Aleksander Pavlovic (broken collarbone).
Bayern head into the game top of the league, with a six-point lead, while BVB are fifth on the log.
