Bayer Leverkusen made it into the final of the DFB Pokal, after securing a convincing 4-0 win over local rivals Fortuna Düsseldorf at the Bay Arena on Wednesday.
Leverkusen’s early offensive onslaught saw Jeremie Frimpong and Amine Adli finding the net inside the first 20 minutes, much to the delight of the home fans celebrating the club’s 90th anniversary.
A critical error by the Düsseldorf goalkeeper in the 36th minute gifted Leverkusen their third goal, as Florian Wirtz capitalised on the loose pass to put the Die Werkself comfortably ahead before the halftime break.
The Bundesliga table toppers continued their dominance in the second half and eventually sealed their victory through Wirtz who completed a brace from the spot.
It’s good news galore for Leverkusen’s fans globally, as they move one step closer to their first-ever domestic double, following Xabi Alonso’s commitment to the club a few days ago.
